Glenn Allen Anzalone was born on June 23, 1955, in Lodi, New Jersey. Glenn was the third of four sons born to a record store worker and a US Marine veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Glenn grew up listening to bands like Black Sabbath, The Doors, and The Ramones. He also began reading the works of authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, developing an interest in the horror genre.
At the age of 10, Glenn began using drugs and alcohol, which led to him getting into fights and frequently running into issues with the law. At the age of 15, he abruptly stopped using all substances. Danzig wanted to become a comic book writer after he graduated from Lodi High School in June 1973. He attended the Tisch School of the Arts and the New York Institute of Photography before founding Verotik, a comic book firm that is primarily targeted at adults, in the 1990s.
Punk rock, industrial, heavy metal, classic metal, and blues have all been influences on his work. He began working as a roadie at age 11 and later joined local bands as a teenager. Danzig learned how to play the guitar and sing while still in his early years. He also received piano and clarinet instruction.
In the 1970s, Danzig formed the band the Misfits. They started releasing their music on Plan 9, Danzig’s own record label. Danzig disbanded the Misfits in 1983 as a result of the band’s lackluster underground appeal despite the release of multiple singles and three albums.
Why did Glenn Danzig leave the misfits?
Danzig left the Misfits in October 1983 after releasing a number of singles, and three albums, and amassing a little underground fan base as a result of his growing hostility toward the other band members and his unhappiness with their musical prowess.
