Richard Genelle October 12, 1961, and died December 30, 2008, was an entrepreneur and actor best known for his role as Ernie in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series.

Why did Ernie (Richard Genelle) leave Power Rangers?

Genelle played Ernie, the jovial owner of the Angel Grove Youth Center, from 1993 to 1997. Birthday parties, school activities, martial arts tournaments, and community charity events were all frequently hosted by Ernie.

Ernie abruptly left the Youth Center after four seasons to do emergency volunteer work in South America according to the show.

In real life, however, Genelle was a super heavy smoker. He was also obese. The two issues weighed heavily on his mind hence his departure from the TV series.

He left the show to double his efforts to quit smoking and lose weight. His determination paid off as he was able to lose forty pounds in a short while which was no mean task for him.
