Drogon, along with his brothers Rhaegal and Viserion, is one of three dragons who are born in the wastelands beyond Lhazar. He bears Khal Drogo’s name, the late husband of Daenerys. He can be identified by his red-and-black wings and black scales. He was Daenerys’ personal mount as well. The last of his brothers to die were Viserion and Rhaegal, leaving just Drogon as the only dragon known to be living today.
Magister Illyrio Mopatis presents Daenerys with three dragon eggs in honour of her nuptials to Khal Drogo. She is obsessed with these eggs and carries a chest full of them at all times. As soon as Viserys tries to grab them, Ser Jorah Mormont stops him.
Drogon and his two brothers are born after Daenerys places their eggs on the pyre created in memory of her late husband, Khal Drogo. The morning following the burial, she emerges unharmed from the ashes of the pyre. He leaps on her shoulder and lets out a powerful roar, declaring the return of dragons to the earth.
