The “lack of stability” at Red Bull was cited by Daniel Ricciardo as the reason for his intention to quit at the end of 2018.
Why did Daniel Ricciardo quit Red Bull?
For the 2019 season, Ricciardo left the team after five years in favor of a move to Renault, and two years later, he again changed teams by joining McLaren.
Ricciardo responded to a recent statement made by Red Bull team owner Christian Horner that the timing of his leaving was “spectacularly poor,” and he went on to outline some of the factors that went into making that decision.
Over the course of his five seasons with Red Bull, from 2014 to 2018, Ricciardo reached the victor’s podium a total of 29 times, winning seven races.
Since leaving, he has only achieved three more third-place finishes, twice with Renault in 2020 before celebrating another victory with McLaren last season at the Italian Grand Prix.
Ricciardo said, acknowledging the criticism regarding his departure, “I guess when you break it down it makes sense.
I completely understand why people could say things like, “You shouldn’t have done that,” etc.
