Gabonese international footballer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays as a forward for English club Arsenal FC, has been stripped of his captaincy duties.

The manager of the club Mikel Arteta took this decision on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, relieving their finest striker of his responsibilities with immediate effect.

Why did Arsenal strip Aubameyang of captaincy?

According to an official statement on the club’s website, Arsenal strip Aubameyang of his captaincy duties because he ‘breached the club’s disciplinary code’.

“Following his latest disciplinary breach last week,” the statement said, “Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United.”

It added: “We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed. We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.”

Aubameyang, 33, hasn’t reacted to his punishment.
