José Alberto Pujols Alcántara born January 16, 1980, is a Dominican-born professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals.

He spent his first 11 seasons in MLB with the Cardinals, then with the Los Angeles Angels for more than nine seasons before joining the Dodgers for half a season. He has been named the National League MVP three times and an All-Star nine times.

Albert suddenly put out an announcement on Monda that he has filed for divorce citing his reasons as ‘irreconcilable differences.

The Pujols have been married for 22 years now so this development is shocking for most of their teeming fans.

The couple was blessed with five children from their union. Sources say Albert will seek joint custody of three of them who are minors.

Pujol’s statement which was released through his manager read, “I’ve been asked a lot of questions over the past few days regarding what’s been going on at home and sadly, after 22 years of marriage, I have made the decision to file for divorce from my wife, Deidre.”

“I realize this is not the most opportune time with Opening Day approaching and other family events that have recently taken place. These situations are never easy and aren’t something that just happened overnight,” he continued.
