After a series of brutal attacks on women in Arlington, Texas, the mysterious Arlington Bathtub Killer was finally revealed to be Dale Devon Scheanette. Scheanette, a former machine operator and nightclub bouncer, had sexually assaulted multiple women in their apartments between 1996 and 1999, ultimately killing Christine Vu and Wendie Prescott by strangling them in their bathtubs.
Despite leaving DNA evidence at the crime scenes, Scheanette remained elusive until his arrest in Dallas in 1999 for a separate crime. His fingerprints were entered into the system, leading to his eventual identification as the Arlington Bathtub Killer. In 2000, Scheanette was arrested for the murders of Vu and Prescott, as well as the sexual assaults of four other women.
After a long legal battle, Scheanette was sentenced to death and executed in 2009. His victims finally felt a sense of justice, with one survivor remarking that on the day of her birth, Scheanette had lost his life. The families and friends of his victims witnessed his execution, with Scheanette’s final words acknowledging the possibility of errors in the justice system.
The case of the Arlington Bathtub Killer serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigation, perseverance, and the pursuit of justice for victims of violent crimes.
