Who was Patsy Cline’s best friend?

We recently lost Loretta Lynn, and many people are unaware of how close she was to Patsy Cline.

Cline was almost home in Nashville when the small plane crashed in 1963, just 2.5 miles north of Camden. Loretta was new to Nashville and quickly became close to Cline, her mentor and best friend.

Cline’s first professional performances began when she was fifteen, at the local radio station WINC. Cline began performing in a local band led by performer Bill Peer in the early 1950s.

Several local appearances led to appearances on Connie B. Gay’s Town and Country television broadcasts.

In 1954, she also signed her first recording contract with the Four Star label. Her early Four Star singles, such as “A Church, a Courtroom, Then Goodbye” (1955) and “I’ve Loved and Lost Again,” had minor success (1956).

On Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts in 1957, Cline made her first national television appearance. After performing “Walkin’ After Midnight,” the song became her first major hit on both the country and pop charts.
