Kim Victoria Cattrall was born on August 21, 1956, in the Liverpool neighborhood of Mossley Hill, the daughter of secretary Gladys Shane and construction engineer Dennis Cattrall. Her brother’s name Christopher died in 2018.
Her family came to Canada when she was three months old and resided in Courtenay, British Columbia.
When her grandmother fell ill at the age of 11, she returned to Liverpool. She studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art[6], but after a year, she returned to Canada and came to New York City at the age of 16 for her first acting gig.

Kim elaborated, “Her father abandoned my grandma, putting her in abject poverty as she struggled to raise three children.
As I’ve grown older, this has motivated me to develop stories about actual women who, although not Superwoman, require amazing abilities to live.”
Shane died nearly five years after Kim’s younger brother Chris vanished from his home in 2018.
