An Arizona man convicted of kidnapping and killing an 8-year-old child in 1984 was killed on Wednesday, the state’s second execution since resuming capital punishment earlier this year.
Who was Frank Atwood?
Frank Atwood was a 66-year-old man who was killed by lethal injection for the murder of Vicki Lynne Hoskinson, an 8-year-old girl who was riding her bike home when Atwood stole her in September 1984.
In California, Atwood was previously convicted of indecent and lascivious behavior as well as kidnapping two separate children. The Supreme Court denied his final request to halt the execution minutes before he was executed about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Arizona suspended executions in 2014 after Joseph Wood, who was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and her father in 1989, took two hours and 15 doses of a two-drug combination to be executed.
Seven months later, Vicki Lynne Hoskinson bones were discovered in the Tucson desert, and Atwood escaped to Texas, where he was apprehended.
