Heather Clarke was also from Northern Ireland. The two met in a nightclub in Portrush, County Antrim. After dating for a while they tied the knot in March 1996.
The couple had two sons named Tyrone and Conor. They relocated to Sunningdale, Berkshire in the United Kingdom where Darren was closer to many golfing events.

In 2005 it was reported that Heather’s health was in a bad state after Darren had several tournaments to care for her. It came to light she had earlier been diagnosed with primary breast cancer in December 2001.
In 2004 she was also diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Heather passed away on Sunday in August of 2006 in the Royal Marsden Hospital, London where she was receiving treatment. She was 39 years of age at the time of her death.
