Beloved Los Angeles-based butcher, Jered Standing, tragically passed away in his home on February 22, 2024.
Known for his sustainable and ethical meat-sourcing practices, Jered was a vegetarian who spoke out against factory farming and animal abuse in the meat industry.
Having worked in a grocery store, Jered was exposed to the harsh realities of concentrated animal feeding operations, leading him to open Standing’s Butchery in Hancock Park, Los Angeles in 2017.
He was committed to using every part of the animal, including scraps and bones, to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
Despite his success and plans to expand his business, Jered’s life came to a sudden end. The Los Angeles County medical examiner determined his cause of death was suicide, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy for ethical butchery practices.
Known for sourcing livestock from local farmers and using pasture-raised, grass-fed meat, Standing’s Butchery gained a loyal following for its commitment to quality and sustainability.
Jered’s passing is a devastating loss for the community and the industry he worked so passionately to improve. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help.
