Busi Lurayi was South African actress who was widely credited as Phumzile on the SABC1sitcom City Ses’la  (from 2005 to 2006 and again in 2010) and its spin-off series Ses’Top La.
She was also recognized for her two-season starring role in the Netflix drama How to Ruin Christmas.

Busi departed City Ses’la after the first season (she was replaced by Thuli Thabethe) to feature in the ITV drama series Wild At Heart, starring Amanda Holden of Kiss Me Kate fame.

In the second season of the show, Busi portrayed Thandi, a teacher who homeschools the children. She is listed as a part of the supporting cast.

In 2010, she reprised her role as Phumzile for the fourth and last season of City Ses’la. Ses’Top La, a spin-off series based on her persona, debuted in 2012.

In May 2006, she appeared as Sittina in an episode of the medical drama series ER titled “There and Back Again.”

She hosted the M-Net game show Million Rand Money Drop in 2013, and she resumed her role as Phumzile in Season 2 of Ses’Top La in 2014.

She appeared as Nkuli in Season 2 of Mzansi Magic’s prison drama Lockdown in 2017, and as Dr Lungile Asumadu in the SABC2 medical drama series Vutha in 2020.

She received a SAFTA for Best Actress in 2021 for her portrayal of Tumi in How to Ruin Christmas.

Busi died on July 10, 2022, of unknown circumstances.
