Hof died on October 16, 2018. As of February 2020, company madam and financial officer Suzette Cole run the brothel as trustee of Hof’s estate.

The Moonlight Ranch, the forerunner of the current Moonlite Bunny Ranch, debuted in 1955. Due to the ranch’s proximity to a Pony Express stop, there is a historical marker on the property, just inside the original main gate. It ran covertly until Nevada started to regulate prostitution establishments in 1971. Dennis Hof, a regular customer, paid $700,000 to buy the company in 1992 and added another $500,000 to improve the interior and outside.

Later, Dennis Hof bought Madame Kitty’s Dream Ranch, a nearby brothel that was then about a mile (1.6 km) away. In 2004, he changed the name to BunnyRanch Two to better capitalize on the BunnyRanch brand. Hof once more renamed it in June 2008: The Love Ranch.
