Creedence Clearwater Revival, also referred to as Creedence and CCR, is an American rock band that was established in El Cerrito, California.

Brother Tom Fogerty, who played rhythm guitar, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford joined John Fogerty, the band’s original lead singer, guitarist, and key songwriter.

These musicians had been performing together since 1959, first as the Blue Velvets and then as the Golliwogs, before becoming a part of Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967.

CCR’s sound included roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock, Southern rock, and country rock among other musical styles.

The band typically played in a Southern rock style, in contrast to their East Bay, California, heritage, and their lyrics made references to the Mississippi River, catfish, bayous, and another Southern American iconography.

In lieu of penning songs about romantic love, the band chooses to write politically and socially conscious lyrics on topics like the Vietnam War.

Who owns the rights to CCR?

The founding member of Creedence Clearwater Revival now holds the world publication rights to the songs of the renowned rock group after a 50-year court fight.

It happened when Mr. Fogerty, 77, acquired the majority of Concord Records’ ownership of the band’s repertoire, which the label had held since 2004.
