Drummond Company, Inc., a privately held business with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, engages in the extraction and processing of coal and coal-derived products, as well as the production of oil and real estate.

Who owns Drummonds?

Heman Edward Drummond, a coal miner from Alabama, established the business in Jasper, Alabama, in 1935. Drummond began mining on property he inherited from his ancestors, dragging coal out of the mines using mules. Drummond died in 1956, and the business was still family-owned.

The business entered into a deal to supply coal to Japanese steel industries in 1970.

One of the founder’s seven children, Garry N. Drummond, was chosen to serve as chairman in 1973.

Elbert Allen “Larry,” a different son, held the position of vice chairman until his passing in 2012.

These Drummond brothers and businessman Clyde Black were charged in 1979 and 1980 with bribing three Alabama legislators by providing them with prostitutes.

Judge Frank McFadden dismissed the three-month litigation.
