Tom Owen, a stage name for Thomas William Stevenson Rowbotham (lived from 8 April 1949 to 8 November 2022), was a British actor best known for playing Tom Simmonite in the longest-running sitcom in history, Last of the Summer Wine.

He was the son of Bill Owen, who played William “Compo” Simmonite (the father of Tom Simmonite) in the show.

In 1978, Owen married Mary Bernadette Therese Moylan, with whom he had two sons, James and William.

Owen passed away on November 8, 2022, at the age of 73.

Tom started his acting career right out of high school, and it was thanks in large part to his father that he was able to secure his first position as an assistant stage manager at Leatherhead Theatre in Surrey.

Tom worked in television for four years before returning to repertory theatre in Sidmouth, Devon, where he continued to work and direct till his death.

Just days after his father Bill’s cancer-related death in July 1999, the actor was selected to play Compo’s long-lost son Tom in Last Of The Summer Wine.

Who is Tom Owen’s son, James Owen?

It appears that James Owens has done an excellent job of avoiding the media. Almost nothing is known about him.

When people ask what I do for fun, I tell 'em, “I write.”
