Susan Letby is the poor mother of serial killer Lucy Letby. She is a 62-year-old woman who worked as an account clerk. Susan was hoping that he only child Lucy would not be found guilty, however, when Lucy was sentenced to life imprisonment, Susan was unable to hold her tears.
Lucy worked as a registered neonatal nurse, at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2012. While working at the hospital, she was involved in a campaign to raise funds for a new neonatal unit.
However, during her career, she attacked at least thirteen newborns in her care between June 2015 and June 2016, killing seven of them. This led to her arrested in July 2018, on suspicion of eight counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder, following a year-long investigation into the high infant mortality rates at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
She was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Lucy will spend the rest of her life in HMP Low Newton, near Durham, a high-security prison.
