Ahmed Salman Rushdie was born in Bombay, India, on 19 June 1947. He is the son of Anis Ahmed Rushdie, a Cambridge-educated lawyer-turned-businessman, and Negin Bhatt, a teacher. His father adopted the name Rushdie in honour of Averroes (Ibn Rushd).
He is a British-American novelist of Indian origin. Salman’s work frequently combines magical realism with historical fiction and focuses on the Indian subcontinent’s connections, disruptions, and migrations between Eastern and Western civilizations.

In 1965, she married Brian Porzak, with whom she had one daughter. In 1970, the couple divorced.
Wiggins writes with “brave intelligence and a keen sense of hidden comedy.” She has received the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize, a Whiting Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts award. Her novel Evidence of Things Unseen was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2004.
