Michael James Dunleavy (born May 5, 1961) is an American educator and politician who has been the state of Alaska’s 12th and current governor since 2018. He served in the Alaska Senate as a Republican from 2013 to 2018.

In the 2018 gubernatorial election, he defeated former Democratic United States Senator Mark Begich when incumbent Governor Bill Walker withdrew. In 2022, he was re-elected.

Rose Dunleavy, Alaska’s First Lady, is a proud Inupiaq lady from the Kobuk River Valley town of Noorvik, where she was raised. She is one of Robert and Maggie Newlin’s 12 children.

Rose met Mike in Nome, Alaska, and they married in 1987. Maggie, Catherine, and Ceil Anne, their three daughters, were nurtured in both rural and urban Alaska.

First Lady Dunleavy has worked in the aviation sector for almost 20 years, beginning as an employee of Mark Air in rural Alaska and currently working for Alaska Airlines in Anchorage.

The First Lady likes to read, sew, and spend time with her family. They enjoy a range of outdoor Alaskan activities together, such as fishing, sightseeing, and hunting. She and her husband are both active members of their Wasilla Catholic Church community.
