Raymond Vahan Damadian was an American physician and creator of an NMR scanning scanner.
Dr. Raymond V. Damadian has rejected a Nobel Prize in 2004 for his contributions to the invention of magnetic resonance imaging.
However, he received a consolation award when the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia acknowledged his financial ability in turning the idea into a lucrative venture.
Damadian won multiple awards. Damadian received the Lemelson-MIT Prize Program’s $100,000 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 as “the guy who created the MRI scanner.”
He then worked with Wilson Greatbatch, an early implanted pacemaker inventor, to create the MRI-compatible pacemaker. Damadian’s work on MRI was recognized with the Bower Award in Business Leadership by the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. He was also honored “Man of the Year” by the Knights of Vartan in 2003.
