Who is Prince Edward’s son James, Viscount Severn?

Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, have only one child, James.

James, the son of Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, assumed his father’s more senior subsidiary title upon becoming the Duke of Wessex, thus he is currently addressed as James, Earl of Wessex, rather than James, Viscount Severn.

His father said of him after his Surrey birth on December 17, 2007, that he was “very cute and very cuddly,” the BBC reported. A few days later, James Alexander Philip Theo—whose full surname is Mountbatten-Windsor—was revealed.

Right now, he stands fifteenth in line for the throne.

James was born into the ninth position in the line of succession, directly in front of his elder sister, Lady Louise. But because his older relatives, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Prince William, and Harry, have had children, he has fallen to fifteenth place.

James and his sister Lady Louise were reported to be the favourite grandchildren from Queen Elizabeth II

James would have followed his sister in the line of succession if he had been born after 2011 because of the Succession to the Crown Act, which formally abolished the practice of male heirs taking precedence over female offspring. (The Act does not affect anything retrospectively because it was passed in 2013 and only applies to people born after October 28, 2011.)

James was one of the Queen’s favorite grandkids, according to Tatler reports.

James’ godparents are Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, Duncan Bullivant, Thomas Hill, Denise Poulton, and Jeanye Irwin. He was baptized in the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle in 2008.

At the moment, he attends Eagle House School, a prep school in Berkshire close to Sandhurst.

In April 2015, Louise and James traveled to South Africa with their parents, marking their first international engagement.

James is not referred to as HRH or given the title of prince, unlike several of the Queen’s grandsons.

Eight grandchildren of the Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh were Prince William and Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Louise and James, and Peter and Zara Phillips. Not everyone, however, received inherited titles.
