Former Ashley Madison CEO Noel Biderman has been in the spotlight again following the release of a new Netflix documentary on the website’s data leak.

Biderman, who served as the CEO of Ashley Madison’s parent company Avid Life Media, is an internet entrepreneur and business marketing specialist born in Toronto, Canada in 1971.

Biderman holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from York University – Osgoode Hall Law School and has studied economics at the University of California. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles in various companies such as Kings Entertainment Group Inc, Bitbuy, The Flowr Corporation, and Move.

Under Biderman’s leadership, the social networking site Ashley Madison was launched in 2001. The controversial dating website caters to individuals who are already married or in relationships, with the slogan “Life is short. Have an affair.” Despite the site’s promotion of discreet relationships, Biderman has denied that the company actively promotes infidelity, stating that people cheat because their lives are not working for them.

In August 2015, Ashley Madison was hit by a massive data leak, compromising the personal information of over 30 million accounts. Following the scandal, Biderman parted ways with Avid Life Media, with the company rebranding as ruby. Biderman’s net worth is estimated to be $40 million, with a significant portion attributed to his work with Ashley Madison.

Currently, Biderman serves as the Strategic Advisor of iGaming at WonderFi and the CEO of Avenue Insights. As of 2024, Ashley Madison remains under ruby’s ownership, with the company described as an industry leader in innovative and open-minded dating services. The recent Netflix docuseries, “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal,” has once again put the spotlight on the infamous dating website and its former CEO Noel Biderman.
