Michael Stanley Regan (born August 6, 1976) is an environmental regulator in the United States. Since March 11, 2021, he has served as the 16th administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He is the first African American man to hold the position.
Regan formerly worked as the secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and as an air quality specialist for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). His appointment to that position was generally applauded by environmental groups due to his track record of combating environmental racism and supporting climate change policies.
Regan and his wife Melvina live in Raleigh, North Carolina, with their son Matthew. Michael Stanley Regan, Jr. (“MJ”), their first-born son, died on August 16, 2012, at the age of one, with stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma.
