Mayar Sherif Ahmed Abdel-Aziz was born in Cairo, Egypt, on May 5, 1996, to Amal Thabet and Sherif Ahmed. Her three siblings are Rana, Dalya, and Rawan. Mayar began playing tennis at an early age, having been exposed to the sport by her elder sister Rana, who is also a tennis player.
She won the African Championship for U14 and U16 and was ranked first in Africa for the whole of her junior career. She was thirteen when she first played in the Fed Cup, and she helped Egypt stay in Group 2 for the first time in history.

Justo Martinez Gonzalez was born in Elche, Spain on September 4, 1982. He began playing tennis at an early age but had little success. He attended the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias after graduating from high school. He is currently the director of the tennis club Club de Campo Elche Tennis.
Mayar and Justo met in 2012 at Juan Carlos Ferrero’s Equelite Academy, where Justo was the instructor. They collaborated during her junior stage when she was just 16 years old and was ranked in the top 500.
