An English actor, voice artist, and author, by the name of Leslie Samuel Phillips, was born on 20 April 1924.
He rose to fame in the 1950s by portraying slick, upper-class comedic parts and using the catchphrases “Ding Dong” and “He-llo.” He appeared in the Doctor in the House and Carry On movie series in addition to the enduring BBC radio comedy “The Navy Lark”.
Phillips acted in dramatic roles in his later career, including a BAFTA-nominated performance with Peter O’Toole in Venus (2006). He gave the Sorting Hat’s voice for the Harry Potter movies. He passed away on 7 November 2022 at the age of 98 years old.
