Kehlani Ashley Parrish is a singer, songwriter, and dancer from the United States. She is originally from Oakland, California, and rose to prominence in 2011 as a member of the teen group Poplyfe. Kehlani’s first commercial mixtape Cloud 19, was released in 2014. The mixtape was named one of the “50 Greatest Albums of 2014” by Complex.
Kehlani was born in Oakland, California on April 24, 1995. They were adopted and reared by their aunt while their mother, who was addicted to drugs, was in jail. Kehlani’s father, who also struggled with addiction, died when she was a toddler. During their adolescence, they attended the Oakland School for the Arts, where they first studied ballet and modern dance.
