Who is K.J. Choi’s coach?

Steven Bann is one of Australia’s most accomplished golf instructors. After turning pro in 1979, Steven competed on the Australian PGA Tour from 1981 through 1996. In 1990, Steve was selected to serve as the Victorian Institute of Sport’s first Head Coach.

Steve worked on the program for six years. The VIS program has produced several event champions, including 17 US Tour titles and 6 alumni who are now ranked in the top 30 in the world. In 1997, Steve granted the position of his assistant coach and current business partner Dale Lynch, who also served as Geoff Ogilvy’s coach and the 2006 US Open champion. He began collaborating with Robert Allenby, a four-time champion, and eight-time US Tour champion Stuart Appleby in 1989. He continues to be Stuart Appleby’s coach and regularly collaborates with him on the US Tour.

Steve also mentors Nick Flanagan, the 2003 US Amateur Champion. Nick has experienced tremendous success thanks to three victories on the US Nationwide Tour and a “battleground” promotion to the main tour in late 2007. He also coaches K.J. Choi, the most successful golfer in Asia and No. 12 in the world, who has eight US Tour victories. Steve is a co-director of Bann Lynch Golf, which has operations at the Yarra Bend Golf Course in Melbourne, Australia, as well as the Saddlebrook Golf Academy in Tampa, Florida, along with his co-director Dale Lynch.
