John Jay Bosch was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Garland, Texas. His father was an Army soldier who met his mother while stationed in South Korea. He became interested in martial arts at a young age, influenced by martial arts films and Bruce Lee. Initially, he taught himself martial arts by imitating Lee and Jackie Chan’s moves. Bosch claimed that he was bullied as a child and became a bully himself, but that he changed his ways after learning kung fu. He played soccer in addition to training in martial arts, in which he won several competitions in.
