Samuel Mark Gordon (born March 14, 1957) is the 33rd governor of Wyoming, taking office on January 7, 2019. He previously served as state treasurer as a Republican; then-governor Matt Mead appointed him to that position on October 26, 2012, to fill the vacancy left by the death of Joseph Meyer.

Gordon, the son of Catherine (Andrews) and Crawford Gordon, was born in New York City. Gordon’s father grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts, on Drumlin Farm. His parents married on October 27, 1945, at Kennebunk’s First Unitarian Church before relocating to their ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming, in 1947.

Gordon met his present wife, Jennie Muir Young, in 1998, and they married in 2000. They jointly own the Merlin Ranch in Johnson County, Wyoming, east of Buffalo. Their ranch won the Society for Range Management Wyoming Section’s “Excellence in Rangeland Stewardship” award in 2009.

Jennie (Muir) Gordon is the current First Lady of Wyoming. She previously oversaw day-to-day operations at Merlin Ranch, the Gordon family’s cow-calf and heifer development facility in Johnson County.

Jennie grew up in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Buffalo, Wyoming with her family. Senior Master Sergeant Robert Muir, Jennie’s father, served in the Navy, Army, and Air Force.

Gertrude Muir, Jennie’s mother, was born in Austria and immigrated to the United States after surviving World War II in Vienna. She studied English and raised the family’s 10 children while Sergeant Muir was away on duty. Four of Jennie’s siblings have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.

The University of Wyoming awarded the First Lady a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. She worked as a laboratory medical technologist at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for 15 years.

She eventually worked for Abbott Laboratories as a field service representative, traveling throughout the western United States repairing and maintaining laboratory equipment at hospitals, clinics, and private practices.
