Jay Johnston, a beloved actor known for his comedic roles in sitcoms like Bob’s Burgers, has had a long and successful career in the entertainment industry.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Johnston studied acting at Columbia College Chicago before joining the Chicago Second City’s comedy tour. He gained recognition for his work on the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show from 1995 to 1998.

From 2007 to 2010, Johnston was a regular on The Sarah Silverman Program, where he played the love interest of Sarah Silverman’s sister Laura. He also lent his voice to the character Jimmy Pesto on Fox’s animated series Bob’s Burgers from 2011 to 2021.

However, in June 2021, Johnston made headlines for a different reason. He was arrested and charged in California for his involvement in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol. Johnston was charged with civil disorder, entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct, and impeding passage.

Despite his past successes in the industry, Johnston faced consequences for his actions related to the Capitol riot. In December 2021, he was reportedly banned from Bob’s Burgers due to his involvement in the riots. On July 8, 2024, Johnston pleaded guilty to obstructing officers during a felony civil disorder, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

As for his personal life, Johnston is reportedly single and has no children. He was previously in a relationship with Criminal Minds actress Paget Brewster, though details of their relationship history have not been made public.

The sentencing for Johnston’s felony charge is scheduled for October 7, where he could potentially face time behind bars for his actions on January 6, 2021. Despite his past successes in the entertainment industry, Johnston’s involvement in the Capitol riot has overshadowed his comedic talents and landed him in legal trouble.
