The 22year old began last season with a disappointing first-round loss in Australian Open qualifying, falling in three sets to Australian Max Purcell. Following his defeat in Australia, Gaston advanced to the semi-finals of an ATP Challenger event in Cherbourg, France.
He won his first ATP title the following week in Marseille, defeating Dennis Novak in three sets before falling to Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the last sixteen.
Marc Barbier is Hugo Gaston’s coach, and the two have worked together for eleven full seasons. Barbier met Gaston when he was barely six years old. Gaston, from Toulouse, was born into a tennis-loving family.
