His late first wife Audrey Williams was also a musician. She married the late legendary musician in 1944 and divorced him in 1952.

She briefly took charge of her husband’s music career after they got married as his manager. Audrey however forced her way into the limelight as a musician.

She recorded several duets with her husband. Audrey appeared on the recordings of Lost on the River, I Heard My Mother Praying for Me, Dear Brother, The Pale Horse and His Rider, Jesus Remembered Me, and Where the Soul of Man Never Dies.

She co-wrote the songs I Want to Live and Love, and Something Got a Hold of Me with Bruce Springsteen.
