Grant was born on February 26, 1973, in Rochdale, Rochdale England, and when he was around 18 years, he won English Schools Championship at Bolton Old Links, capped for England against Scotland Schoolboys and in the European Schools Championships in Sweden, and made the Lancashire senior team.
