Ethan Green Hawke is an American actor and director who was born on November 6, 1970.

He has received four Academy Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, and a Tony Award nomination. Hawke has directed a documentary in addition to three off-Broadway plays and three full-length movies.

Before striking over with the drama Dead Poets Society in 1989, he made his acting debut in the science fiction film Explorers in 1985.

He appeared in a number of films as a cameo before turning in the critically acclaimed performance in the Generation X thriller Reality Bites in 1994.

Hawke has been nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Hawke was born in Austin, Texas, in 1970 to James Hawke, an insurance actuary, and volunteer of Leslie Hawke. In Fort Worth, Texas, Hawke’s parents were high school sweethearts and got married when his mother was barely 17 years old.
