Edward James Olmos (born February 24, 1947) is an actor, director, producer, and activist from the United States.He is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Martin “Marty” Castillo in Miami Vice (1984-1989), and American Me (1992) (for which he also directed).

He is also well-known for his role in William Adama in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), teacher Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver (1988) (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), Detective Gaff in Blade Runner (1982) and it’s sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017), and Mito in the 2005 Disney du In the FX series Mayans MC, he played the father of two members of an outlaw motorcycle gang from 2018 until 2023.
