Ed Ames, real name Edmund Dantes Urick, was an American pop singer and actor who was born on July 9, 1927, and passed away on May 21, 2023.
Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, Sarah, and David Urick, also known as Eurich, had immigrated to the United States when their son Ames was born in Malden, Massachusetts. Of nine children, five boys and four girls, he was the youngest.
He is well-known for his mid-to-late 1960s pop number-one hits like “My Cup Runneth Over,” “Time,Time,” and “When the Snow Is on the Roses,” in addition to his role as Mingo in the Daniel Boone TV series. Together with his siblings, he was a part of the legendary singing group the Ames Brothers in the 1950s.
After the Ames Brothers split up at the beginning of the 1960s, Ed Ames enrolled at the Herbert Berghof School to pursue a career in acting. He made his acting debut in an off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. He later made cameos in Carnival and The Fantasticks! performs on Broadway.
While still a member of the Ames Brothers, Ames recorded under the name “Eddie Ames” and issued the song “Bean Song (Which Way To Boston?)” in January 1957. In 1965, Ames resumed performing as a soloist. Ames has a distinctive baritone voice. “Try to Remember,” his debut single for RCA Victor, was made available.
