Darlene Wright, better known by her stage name Darlene Love, was born in the US on July 26, 1941. She made recordings both by herself and as the lead singer for the Blossoms.
Her younger sister Edna Wright performs as the lead vocalist for the band Honey Cone. Despite briefly residing in Texas, she spent the majority of her formative years in Los Angeles. As a preacher’s daughter, she grew up listening to gospel music and was a devout member of her church.
When Wright was ten years old, she joined the local church choir in Hawthorne, California. She was observed by the choir’s director, Cora Martin-Moore, as they were practicing.
After giving a performance for Martin-Moore, where she performed and made multiple broadcasts, she was requested to travel to the Music Mart.
Who is Darlene Love husband Wesley Mitchell?
Wesley Mitchell is unfortunately unknown to us, despite the fact that their 11-year marriage, which lasted from 1971 to 1982, was recognized.
Producer Phil Spector enlisted the Blossoms to sing in a session in 1962.
Wright received $5,000 to sing lead on “He’s a Rebel” since his girl group, the Crystals, was unable to get to Los Angeles in time for the recording session.
Wright had never previously appeared on a Spector recording.
In order to release his cover of the Gene Pitney song before Vikki Carr’s, Spector swiftly issued the single, credited to the Crystals, on Philles Records.
The Crystals, a seasoned and much-traveled girl harmony group in their own right, were completely unprepared for the phantom release of this track, but they were nonetheless compelled to perform and promote the new single on television and during tours as if it were their own.
In November 1962, the song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
