But behind every successful man is a supportive woman, in this case, his wife of 67 years, Jean Goebel.
Born in Wharton, Texas in 1931, Dan Rather met his wife Jean during his time working at KTRH radio in Houston. Describing it as “love at first sight,” Dan knew Jean was the one for him. They tied the knot in 1957 and have since built a life together in New York.
Despite the demands of Dan’s career, which often required him to be away from home for extended periods, Jean stayed by his side, providing unwavering support. In an interview with People in June 2023, Dan praised his wife’s commitment and fighting spirit, acknowledging that without her, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
The couple has two children, Robin and Danjack, who have grown into successful adults. Robin is an environmental activist, while Danjack worked as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan for over 30 years. Dan credits his wife and children for the longevity of his marriage and the strength of his family.
