Sandra Doorley, the district attorney of Monroe County in New York, has issued an apology after a traffic stop incident was captured on a police bodycam. Doorley, who has been serving as DA since 2012 and was elected for her fourth term in 2023, was seen berating an officer who pulled her over for speeding in her garage.

In the video, recorded on April 22, 2024, the officer informed Doorley that she was driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Throughout the 26-minute exchange, Doorley can be seen engaging in a heated conversation with the officer. At one point, she even told the officer that if he gave her a traffic ticket, that was fine as she was the one who prosecutes it.

Following the release of the bodycam footage, members of the Monroe County community expressed outrage, with New York Governor Kathy Hochul condemning Doorley’s behavior and emphasizing the importance of district attorneys upholding high ethical standards.

In response to the controversy, Doorley issued an apology video on April 29, 2024. In the video, she admitted that she had failed to meet her own standards and expressed regret for not treating the officer with the respect he deserved. Doorley attributed her behavior to the stress of overseeing three murder investigations and dealing with her husband’s health concerns.

She also revealed that she pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket and referred the case to another DA’s office for review. Doorley’s apology video aimed to address the situation and mend the damage caused by her actions during the traffic stop.
