American actor Christopher Allen Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938. Since the 1960s, he has made numerous stage, movie, and television appearances. His most well-known roles were Jim Ignatowski in the comedy series Taxi (1978–1983), for which he received two Emmy Awards and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990).
At summer theaters in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and Mount Kisco, New York, Lloyd got his start in show business as an apprentice. At the age of 19, he moved to New York City and began taking acting lessons, some of which he received from Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.
He recalled making his New York stage debut in the 1961 production of Fernando Arrabal’s play And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers, saying, “I was a replacement and it was my first sort of job in New York.”
