Christina Mara Aguilera (born December 18, 1980) is a singer, songwriter, actress, and television personality from the United States. She has been dubbed the “Voice of a Generation” due to her four-octave vocal range and ability to sustain high notes. Aguilera rose to fame with her self-titled debut album, which is credited with sparking the revival of teen pop in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Her works, which incorporate feminism, sexuality, and domestic violence, have sparked both critical acclaim and controversy, and she is frequently cited as an inspiration by other artists. After “Reflection,” Aguilera caught the attention of RCA’s A&R Ron Fair and was quickly signed to the label.

The contemporary teen pop craze evoked by Aguilera’s peer Britney Spears put pressure on RCA, causing the label to rush production of the album and align Aguilera with the teen pop trend. In June 1999, they released the album’s lead single, “Genie in a Bottle,” a trendy pop and R&B track. The single catapulted Aguilera to stardom, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and 20 other countries. As of 2014, it had sold over seven million copies. In August 1999, Aguilera’s self-titled debut album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it eight times platinum, and it had sold 17 million copies worldwide by 2010.  Three other singles were released from the album: two US number-one singles, “What a Girl Wants” and “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You),” and one US top-five single, “I Turn to You,” a cover of All-4-One’s song. Aguilera won Best New Artist at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in February 2000.

Who is Christina Aguilera’s father Fausto Xavier Aguilera?

Christina Mara Aguilera was born on December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, New York City, the eldest of two daughters to musician Shelly Loraine Kearns (née Fidler) and United States Army soldier Fausto Xavier Aguilera. Her father was born in Ecuador, and her mother’s ancestors are German, Irish, Welsh, and Dutch. Because of his military service, the family relocated frequently, living in places such as New Jersey, Texas, New York, and Japan. He was physically and emotionally abusive, according to Aguilera. She used music to escape her tumultuous home life. Aguilera, her younger sister Rachel, and her mother moved into her grandmother’s home in Rochester, a Pittsburgh suburb, after her parents divorced when she was six years old. Her mother later remarried and had a son named Michael with Jim Kearns. In 2012, Aguilera expressed interest in reconciling with her father after years of estrangement.
