Bill Russell, who played for the Boston Celtics and won 11 NBA titles during his Hall of Fame career, passed away on Sunday(July 31) at the age of 88.
The 12-time NBA All-Star passed away with his wife by his side, according to a statement Russell issued on his Twitter account.
The declaration said:(We would like to share the following news with all of Bill’s friends, admirers, and supporters).
With his wife Jeannine by his side, Bill Russell, the most successful athlete in American sports history, died peacefully today at the age of 88.

Prior to the death of the NBA icon, had been in four marriages. Bill Russell’s ex-wife Rose Swisher happens to be the very first wife of Russell.
Russell and Swisher were wed on December 9, 1956. They met in college and remained together until divorcing in 1973. They have three kids together: William Russell Jr., Karen Russell, and Jacob Russell.
Rose Swisher had not made many personal disclosures to the public. She lived alone and out of the public eye. However, Karen Russell, her daughter, is a lawyer and a television analyst.
Rose Swisher died at the age of 78 on September 11, eight years ago.
