Pakistani singer, songwriter, and music director Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan PP was born on October 13, 1948, and he died on August 16, 1997. He specialized in performing qawwali, a Sufi devotional song.

The “Shahenshah-e-Qawwali” according to the New York Times is the best qawwali singer of his generation (the King of Kings of Qawwali). He was voted the fourth-best singer of all time by LA Weekly in 2016.

He was highly renowned for having a strong voice and for being able to perform for extended periods of time. Khan was largely responsible for introducing qawwali music to a global audience.

In the summer of 1985, Khan performed at the World of Music, Arts, and Dance (WOMAD) occasion in London. He had appearances in Paris in 1985 and 1988.

He visited Japan for the first time in 1987 at the invitation of the Japan Foundation. During the sixth Asian Traditional Performing Art Festival, he had a performance in Japan.
