Dennis Emmanuel Brown CD (born February 1, 1957) was a Jamaican reggae performer. During his illustrious career, which began in the late 1960s when he was eleven years old, he released over 75 albums and was a great star of lovers rock, a subgenre of reggae. Brown was called “The Crown Prince of Reggae” by Bob Marley, and he would have a lasting impact on subsequent generations of reggae singers.
His father, Arthur, was a writer, actor, and journalist who grew up in Kingston with his parents, three older brothers, and a sister, despite the fact that his mother died in the 1960s.
Despite growing up idolizing American balladeers like Brook Benton, Sam Cooke, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin, he began his singing career at the age of nine, while still in junior high, with an end-of-term presentation, his first public performance. He cited Nat King Cole as one of his early influences.
