Who are the Sons of the Harpy in ‘Game of Thrones’?

The Sons of the Harpy are the fifth book’s lesser enemies, following the Wise Masters of Yunkai, Hizdahr zo Loraq, and Quentyn Martell. They are a group of Ghiscari from Meereen and Astapor who used to lead the Unsullied if the city was assaulted. They are suspected of being noble Meereenese families who oppose Daenerys Targaryen’s occupation of their city and desire to reinstate slavery in Meereen by deposing her as ruler. Their name alludes to the Old Empire of Ghis, one of the world’s oldest known nations and cultures.

They began slaughtering Freedmen, Unsullied, and Shavepates after Daenerys captured Meereen. They generally strike at night and at some point try to poison Daenerys. Their deeds sparked an uprising in Meereen. Loraq, Zhak, Pahl, Quazzar, Uhlez, Ghazeen, Hazkar, Dhazzak, Yherizan, and Merreq are among the noble Meereen families suspected of being Sons of the Harpy. They are Yunkai’s indirect friends, as are the Slaver Alliance, which consists of Yunkai, Qarth, Volantis, and various sellsword businesses. Their leader is still unknown, but he is commonly referred to as “the Harpy.”
