Luka Dončić, the NBA star also known as Luka Magic, has taken the basketball world by storm with his incredible skills playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
But behind his success on the court are his supportive parents Mirjam and Sasa, who have been by his side every step of the way.
Sasa Dončić, Luka’s father, was a professional basketball player himself, with a career that spanned from 1993 to 2010. While primarily playing in Slovenia, Sasa also had stints in France and Serbia.
After his playing days, Sasa transitioned into coaching before becoming the director of sports for the Slovenian Basketball Federation in January 2024.
Luka’s mother, Mirjam, had a successful career in modeling and hosting, including hosting the Slovenian version of Wheel of Fortune. Despite divorcing in 2008, both Sasa and Mirjam have been unwavering in their support of their son and his NBA career.
In a recent interview with Euroleague Basketball’s Table Talk, Mirjam shared that Luka’s love for basketball was evident from a young age. “Since day one, [when] Luka started to walk he was crazy about basketball,” she said. “Even when he had birthdays, for the present he always said, ‘I want to have a ball or sneakers.’ That’s it.”
In addition to making his parents proud on the court, Luka and his partner Anamaria Goltes welcomed their first child, Gabriela, in December 2023.
The couple, who have been together since they were 12 years old, announced their engagement on July 7, 2023, with Luka calling it the “happiest day of my life.”
Luka’s dedication to his craft has not gone unnoticed, as he has been named an NBA All-Star and All-NBA First Team member five consecutive seasons since 2020.
