Lily Safra died in Geneva on 9 July 2022 at the age of 87. She was a Brazilian-Monegasque billionaire and socialite who attained considerable wealth through her four marriages.

Lily Safra was known for the tremendous wealth she attained through her marriages. Her first marriage was to Mario Cohen, an Argentine hosiery magnate of Italian-Jewish descent.
They got married when she was 17 and had three children and later divorced in the early 1960s. However, one of her sons, along with her grandchild, died in a tragic car accident.
Her second marriage was to Alfredo “Freddy” Monteverde, a leader in the Brazilian household appliance distribution business. Together, they adopted one child and remained married till his death in 1969.
Her late husband’s banker, Edmond Safra, ensured she inherited her late spouse’s entire fortune. They dated for a while but the romance ended.
This led her to marry her third husband businessman Samuel Bendahan in 1972. Their marriage ended after a year.
She then married Safra in 1976 and he founded Republic National Bank of New York. Safra was killed in Monaco in a fire that was determined to be arson.
