Lata Mangeshkar is an Indian singer-songwriter, playback vocalist, and composer who was born Hema Mangeshkar on September 28, 1929. She is widely regarded as one of the most proficient and prominent vocalists in India.
Her contribution to the Indian music industry in a career spanning eight decades won her honorific titles such as the “Queen of Melody”, “Nightingale of India”, and “Voice of the Millennium”.
Mangeshkar tested positive for COVID-19 on January 8, 2022, with few symptoms, and was transported to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital’s intensive care unit.
She was admitted to the intensive care unit and exhibited “little improvement” in her condition.
The medics treating her had removed her from the ventilator on 28 January when her health “improved dramatically”; yet, she was back on the ventilator on 5 February, when her condition deteriorated and was having “intensive therapy”.
