American singer and actress Whitney Elizabeth Houston passed away on February 11, 2012. She was born on August 9, 1963. She is known as “The Voice” and is one of the most successful musicians of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide.

Houston, who was renowned for her soulful, strong vocals and vocal improvisation abilities, had a significant impact on a number of famous music vocalists. From “Saving All My Love for You” in 1985 to “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” in 1988, she is the only artist to achieve seven straight number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100. In Newark, New Jersey, on August 9, 1963, Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born. Her mother, gospel singer Emily “Cissy” Houston, was a member of The Drinkard Singers and then joined the Gospelaires, a well-known session vocal group whose name ultimately became The Sweet Inspirations.

Her father, John Russell Houston Jr., was a former soldier in the Army who later served as a city administrator for Kenneth A. Gibson, the mayor of Newark at the time, and a manager at the Sweet Inspirations. Her older half-brother Gary Garland is a former basketball player and vocalist, while her older brother Michael was a songwriter. She got a second older half-brother through her father named John III.
